October 2009: Aimee Addison, Wear Me Jewels

Just across the fountain from last month's winner is another jeweler who started at about the same time. Shes' got a completely different style of jewelry and display, yet equally attractive and engaging.
This is Aimee Addison's fourth season at Market. She started making jewelry five years ago. I asked if her style had developed over the years, and her answer was an emphatic YES! The two biggest influences have been wanting to make jewelry that is different than anyone else's, and by learning new techniques. She took a couple of jewelry classes to get started, but she mostly learns by experimenting and trying new things. You can see a wide variety of techniques in her work, from working with brass charms and findings, to wire wrapping, to metal fabrication and working with metal clays. Each new techinque brings out new designs. Working with metal clay has been her newest adventure, allowing Aimee to make delicate and detailed leaf pendants from the impressions of real leaves.
Though the techniques vary widely, there is a solid aesthetic that runs through all of Aimee's designs. There are reflections of the natural world in every piece, and a whimsical eye for shape, color and content. A sweet vintage look ties the whole line together.
Though her jewelry style is art nouveau/antique, her booth has a fun modern look. A brown and green color scheme coordinates with the matching sign, product tags and cards. An informational placard explains about the metal used, for those with allergy concerns. Tidy, organized displays with plenty of room to stand inside the booth allows customers to browse, compare and consider to their hearts' content.

You can find Aimee's beautiful booth nearly every Saturday in space 21, at the Fountain on the West Park Block. Stop by and see her work for yourself! I promise, the jewels will say "Wear me!" to you... I heard them myself.
